Position Title

Volunteer Youth Program Educator

Purpose

Teach American Red Cross Youth Programs to K-6 Grade Youth for After School Programs in Genesee and Lapeer County Schools.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver American Red Cross Health and Safety Youth Programs to youth in after school programs.
  • Pick-up training supplies and class materials at the Red Cross Chapter.
  • Submit course records for classes taught.

Qualifications

  • Enjoy working with youth.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be reliable.
  • Valid driving license or reliable transportation.

Training

  • Youth Program Educator orientation and training workshop.
  • Babysitter’s Instructor Training (if desired).
  • Annual Adult, Child and Infant CPR certification provided.
  • First Aid certification provided, renewed every three years.

Length of Appointment

Ongoing as needed

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 10 hours per month, (example: 2.5 hours per week on Thursday for 4 weeks).
  • Youth Program Educator selects classes to teach.
  • Peak demand during fall and spring.
  • Limited opportunities during the summer months.

Support

Provided

  • Written class assignments.
  • Directions and map provided (if needed) to each class location.
  • Mileage paid from the chapter to and from class assignment (if desired).

Opportunities

  • Additional Health & Safety Services instructor training as desired.
  • First Aid Station Volunteer opportunities.
