At the core of our humanitarian ideal
is the simple act of one person helping another.
At the heart of the Red Cross are volunteers –our “silent strength” – people dedicated to making a difference in our community. It is through their gifts of time that we are able to touch the lives of so many in our community in so many ways. Vital to our service delivery, volunteers are the force that allows us to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies within our community as well as communities across the country.
The very foundation of the American Red Cross is its volunteer work force. Throughout Red Cross history volunteers have helped shape our organization. The needs of our agency are ever changing– so to are the responsibilities, needs, and identity of our volunteer force.
In a brief passage Ralph Waldo Emerson captured the essence of volunteerism.
“Volunteerism is a wonderful state of mind. It urges us to step outside the routine of our daily lives. It propels us to act when we perceive a need. It reminds us that even though our actions are not always selfless, there is great reward in accomplishing a worthwhile task.”
We utilize our volunteer’s wide range of expertise and skills to help propel our chapter forward. From our volunteer Board of Directors to the volunteers that greet our visitors on a daily basis….all of our volunteers play a significant role in the success of our chapter and greatly impact our community.
